2024-08-15 thru 09-05: Beginning Quilting Class with Sherry Chisum

This is a seven-sessions class taught over four weeks.  This class offers an introduction to various classic piecing methods for quilt making. 

Each student will make six different blocks with sashing and borders added to incorporate into a lap-sized sampler quilt.   Basic 1/4 inch seam, measuring and cutting methods, construction, and finishing will be taught. 

Instructor, Sherry Chisum's class is guaranteed to be the beginning of a fun, fulfilling, and exciting new hobby for a newbie or even a brush-up refresher course for a rusty quilter!  A portable sewing machine, basic supplies, and fabric will be needed by each participant.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: This is an entry level beginning quilt class. You should be able to use a sewing machine somewhat. You do not need to be an expert on it.
Requirements: First day of class, January 26th, you will need to have the following materials. 1. Sewing Machine, in good working order ( please bring your manual) 2. Cutting supplies - Rotary Cutter, Cutting Mat, Rulers 3. Thread- 40wt or 50wt 100% cotton is recommended. Choose a neutral color such as grey, cream or beige 4. Scissors - Small for snipping threads 5. Fabric Marker - one or more of blue water soluble, red or black heat erasable, fine point lead pencil, or chalk pencil. Fabric Requirement: Focal Fabric- 1 1/2 yards light background - 3/4 yard medium value- 1/2 yard dark value- 2/3 yard medium light value - 1 yard Backing and binding can be purchased after you complete your quilt if you would like: Backing 1-3/4 yard binding - 1/2 yard
